THRIVE
Created over a decade ago, THRIVE is a youth mentoring program hosted at The Children’s Course. The program focuses on building character and helping instill life enhancing values in youth by fostering positive relationships and a sense of community. Activities are centered around First Tee’s Commitment to Being a Game Changer with five Key Commitments as the life skills we want our participants to adopt and pursue: pursuing goals, growing through challenges, collaborating with others, building a positive self-identity, and using good judgement.
THRIVE consists of youth ages 6-18 and a team of trained and dedicated mentors. The program currently has openings for youth who would benefit from positive mentorship.
What We Do
The program primarily meets Wednesdays from 4:00 – 5:30pm at The Children’s Course in Gladstone, OR. Activities are centered around First Tee’s Commitment to Being a Game Changer with five Key Commitments as the life skills we want our participants to adopt and pursue: pursuing goals, growing through challenges, collaborating with others, building a positive self-identity, and using good judgement.
This is done through weekly visits between mentees and mentors, both on and off the golf course, and a program of excursions throughout the year. Excursions include visits to sites of importance, whether artistic, cultural, historical or natural, with a focus on creating opportunities for personal growth and experience. Additional opportunities include activities related to career and academic exploration such as visits to local businesses.

Mentors are the backbone of our THRIVE program. We are looking for caring and dedicated individuals to help build positive and supportive relationships with our participants.
Mentors must be available to meet weekly on Wednesdays from 4:00 – 5:30pm. Other requirements include passing a background check and completing SafeSport training. Bilingual Spanish speakers are a plus!
